Holiday Party Tips:
Office parties are a wonderful time to network and increase your sphere of influence. Plan on circulating
and meeting other people that you may know by face only. Think like an Ambassador and master the skills of "meet and greet." Make eye contact, smile and introduce yourself to people you may not know.
Company parties are generally motivated by managements desire to give employees a good time. They also function as an opportunity to observe the behavior of each and every attendee. If you and your partner are dressed appropriately, drink in moderation and are perceived to be well behaved, all is well. On the other hand, if you draw attention to yourselves by being over or underdressed, if you overindulge in alcoholic beverages or if your office party manners leave something to be desired, the management team will remember your behavior. This will not be to your advantage.
Don't leave anything to chance. Inquire about appropriate attire for the events you will be attending. Arrive on time, indulge lightly in the food and beverages, circulate and interact with your peers, colleagues and the management team. Be sure to express your appreciation for the party and when things seem to be winding down, leave the event.

Holiday Gift Giving: Beyond the actual selection of the gift, give some thought to the wrapping of the gift. Packaging creates anticipation of something wonderful and it indicates that you have given considerable thought to all aspects of the gift. When presenting the gift in person, look in to the eyes of the recipient and express your best wishes for the occassion. Proper protocol when receiving a gift is to acknowledge the gift and send a hand written note on lovely stationery.
Give Thoughtfully: For a casual dinner or event it may be appropriate to bring gifts of food or wine, however for a special occassion a more appropriate gift would be arranged flowers, a book, special note paper or a bottle of something special to be opened later. A "thank you" note after the party is appropriate.
